Shoulder
The shoulder is the most flexible joint in the body, enabling the arm to move in multiple directions. It comprises three primary bones: the humerus (upper arm bone), scapula (shoulder blade), and clavicle (collarbone). These form a ball-and-socket joint, where the humeral head fits into a shallow glenoid socket in the scapula, allowing for an extensive range of motion. The shoulder’s stability and function depend on soft tissues, including the rotator cuff—a group of four muscles and tendons critical for arm movement and support.
The shoulder’s articulation is accompanied by other joints, such as the acromioclavicular (AC) and sternoclavicular (SC) joints, which contribute to its overall stability. The labrum, a cartilage ring, enhances stability by deepening the glenoid socket, while ligaments and bursae help prevent dislocations and reduce friction, respectively. Despite its remarkable flexibility, the shoulder is susceptible to injuries like strains, tears, and dislocations, making proper care and strengthening essential for maintaining its health.
Our orthopedic shoulder specialists deliver compassionate care with expertise and precision. Delivering effective solutions focused on restoring function, reducing pain, and regaining strength and motion, allowing patients to return faster and stronger to the activities they love.
