Hip

The hip joint is one of the body’s largest and most important joints, built for both strength and a wide range of motion. It is a ball-and-socket joint, where the rounded head of the femur (thigh bone) fits into the cup-shaped acetabulum of the pelvis. This allows the leg to move in multiple directions and rotate, while slick articular cartilage cushions the joint and absorbs shock, helping it withstand the constant stress of supporting the upper body during various activities through the day.

A network of soft tissues working together gives the hip stability. The labrum (a fibrous ring of cartilage) deepens the socket and holds the femoral head securely in place. The massive muscle groups of gluteal, hamstrings, and quadriceps power leg movement and help maintain balance. This combination of bones, cartilage, ligaments, and muscles ensures the hip can handle daily stresses and complex motions safely and efficiently.

Your hips power your every step. Don’t let hip stiffness and pain keep you from standing, walking, and playing with those whom you love doing the things you enjoy.
