Meet Dr. Shiv Patel, M.D.

Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon specialized in Sports Medicine, Joint Replacement, General Orthopaedics & Trauma

Dr. Shiv Patel is a native of North Texas and joins Lonestar Orthopaedic and Spine Specialist in 2020. Dr. Patel was born & raised in Denison, Texas (75 miles north of DFW) & graduated from Denison High School where he was an all-district soccer athlete.

Dr. Patel went on to The University of Texas at Austin where he graduated with a B.S. in Biochemistry. In his time there, he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.

To further his education, Dr. Patel came to Fort Worth to complete his Master’s degree in Medical Sciences at The University of North Texas Health Science Center where he graduated with a 4.0 GPA and honors.

Following this, he attended 4 years at Texas A&M College of Medicine in Temple, Texas at Scott & White Memorial Hospital where he graduated with honors in his medical school class and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honors society secondary to academic achievements and excellence.

Dr. Patel then returned to Fort Worth to complete his 5-year residency in orthopaedic surgery at John Peter Smith Hospital and affiliated hospitals. He obtained robust training in all areas of orthopaedics including trauma/hand/spine/foot & ankle/sports medicine/and total joint replacement. During his time at JPS, he was afforded the opportunity to partake in the care of Fort Worth area high school athletes including Burleson and Aledo.

Dr. Patel then decided to obtain further sub-specialty training in orthopaedic sports medicine and shoulder surgery at Baylor College of Medicine/Burkhart Research Institute for orthopaedics in Houston and San Antonio, TX. During his training, Dr. Patel took care of SEC athletes with Texas A&M football as well as Houston Sabercats professional rugby team. In addition, Dr. Patel also provided care to the Milwaukee Brewers Triple-AAA affiliate San Antonio Missions minor league baseball team. Dr. Patel also served as junior faculty at the world’s largest VA medical center, Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, where he delivered orthopaedic care to our nation’s veterans.

While obtaining his sub-specialty training, Dr. Patel was able to work with some of the foremost surgeons in knee and cartilage restoration as well as complex ligamentous injuries of the knee. He was trained by Dr. Stephen Burkhart who is largely considered one of the world’s foremost experts in rotator cuff surgery and preservation of the shoulder joint.

Dr. Patel sub-specializes in shoulder, knee, and hip issues including rotator cuff and labral tears, shoulder instability, partial and total knee replacements, ACL / PCL / MCL / LCL tears, knee instability, meniscus tear repair and transplantation, cartilage restoration, and preservation of hip labral tears, and reconstruction addressed with minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. He remains well versed in all aspects of fracture (broken-bones) surgery as well as the upper and lower extremity.

Dr. Patel is married to his wife Lainey who he met in medical school & is a fellow M.D. and radiologist. In his spare time, he loves spending time pursuing athletic endeavors and is a rabid fan of Longhorn football and the Dallas Cowboys. Both he and his wife are excited about pursuing the dream of settling into the west side of DFW and building a practice and community together.
